Moissanite vs. Diamond
Two distinct gemstones. A choice shaped by your preferences.
Composition and origin
Diamond consists of carbon; moissanite consists of silicon carbide. Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds are both diamond. Modern jewelry moissanite is usually lab-created. Product-specific origin should be confirmed in the listing.
Light and appearance
Moissanite has greater dispersion, often producing more colorful flashes. Diamond has a different optical character. Moissanite is doubly refractive; diamond is singly refractive. Neither optical profile makes one stone universally better.
Hardness and care
Diamond is 10 on the Mohs scale and moissanite approximately 9.25. Both resist scratching but can chip under impact. Care must also account for the metal and any accent stones: use a soft brush, mild soap and lukewarm water when appropriate, and avoid harsh chemicals.
Cost and personal value
Moissanite often costs less than a comparably sized diamond, but actual prices depend on cut, quality, metal and craftsmanship. Compare current product prices rather than assuming a fixed saving. Neither gemstone guarantees resale value.
